Setting: Return window

How long after delivery a customer has to start a return.

How long the customer has to make a return after the product has been delivered.

Where to find it

Settings > Returns > Policies, under Return Policies.

What this is

Enter a number of days. The clock starts at delivery, not the order date — a customer who waited two weeks for shipping gets their full window either way.

Items past the window appear as ineligible in the portal, with a note explaining why.

Considerations

  • Thirty days is the most common default and what most shoppers expect.

  • Seasonal or trend-driven products lose resale value quickly, which argues for a shorter window.

  • Some jurisdictions mandate a minimum — the EU right of withdrawal is 14 days from receipt.

  • Update your return policy page whenever you change this value.

Common exceptions

  • Holiday window — extend for orders placed in November and December so gifts bought early are still returnable in January

  • Shorter on sale items — match on a product or order tag

  • Longer for specific customers — match on a customer tag
