Purple Dot Integration

How Onward protects pre-orders sold through Purple Dot, including orders split across multiple shipments.

If your store uses Purple Dot to sell pre-orders, Onward Checkout+ can protect those orders too — including orders that Purple Dot later splits into multiple shipments. This article covers how pre-order protection works and what setup looks like.

How it works

Purple Dot uses its own checkout for pre-orders, separate from your standard Shopify checkout. Once Onward is configured for your Purple Dot store, shoppers see Checkout+ protection on the Purple Dot checkout the same way they would on a normal order, and pay one premium for everything in their cart.

Pre-orders that ship in multiple parts

Purple Dot sometimes splits a single pre-order purchase into several Shopify orders — for example, if a shopper orders two items that arrive on different dates, each becomes its own order. Onward automatically extends coverage to every order in that group, so shoppers aren't charged a second premium and every shipment stays protected.

A couple of things worth knowing:

  • Coverage for a pre-order group lasts one year from the date of the original order.

  • If the protection on the original order is refunded, later shipments in that group will no longer be covered.

Setting it up

Because Purple Dot replaces the standard checkout button on your storefront, protecting pre-orders takes a bit more configuration than a typical Checkout+ install. Onward's team handles this as part of setup — reach out to your Onward contact or [email protected] and let us know you use Purple Dot for pre-orders. We'll confirm a few store settings and make sure the Purple Dot checkout correctly surfaces Checkout+.

If you're already live with Checkout+ and notice protection isn't appearing on Purple Dot pre-orders, let us know the same way and we'll get it configured.
