Skio Integration

How to connect Skio to Onward so subscription orders and renewals stay protected with Checkout+.

What This Integration Does

If you sell subscriptions through Skio and offer Onward's Checkout+ protection on them, connecting Skio lets Onward:

  • Keep protection on renewals. Subscribers keep the same purchase protection on recurring orders that they get on a one-time purchase.

  • Add protection to existing subscriptions that are missing it. If a subscriber opted into protection at checkout but their subscription started before Onward was added to its selling plan, Onward can add protection to that subscription so future renewals are covered.

  • Cancel "protection-only" subscriptions. If the subscribed product is removed and only the Onward protection charge is left, Onward cancels the subscription so your customer isn't charged for protection on an empty order.

Before You Start

  • You'll need admin access to Skio. Only Skio admins can see the API & Integrations section where API keys are created.

  • You'll need access to your Onward admin.

Setup Instructions

Setting up Skio with Onward takes two steps:

  1. Add Onward to your selling plans so Skio carries protection on subscriptions.

  2. Connect your Skio API key so Onward can communicate with your Skio account.

Step 1: Add Onward to your selling plans

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin, go to Apps, and open the Skio Subscriptions app

  2. Go to Features > Selling Plans

  3. Open a selling plan, click Select products, search for Onward (or Checkout+), and select it

  4. Click Save in the top right of the selling plan

  5. Repeat for every selling plan your subscribers can choose. Any plan without Onward on it won't protect renewals.

Step 2: Connect your Skio API key

  1. In the Skio dashboard, go to API & Integrations > API

  2. Enter a name for the key, such as Onward

  3. Click Generate API key

  4. Click Copy to copy the key right away. Skio only shows the key once, so if you lose it you'll need to generate a new one.

  5. In your Onward admin, go to Account > Integrations

  6. Find the Skio card and click Install

  7. Paste the API key

  8. Click Install

Once connected, no further action is needed. Onward handles renewals and protection-only subscriptions automatically in the background.

Troubleshooting

  • I don't see API & Integrations in Skio. Your Skio user isn't an admin. Ask a Skio admin on your team to generate the key, or to give you admin access.

  • I added a new selling plan. Add Onward to the new plan using Step 1 so its renewals are protected.
